William Doran

William Doran is a partner in Miller Thomson's London office practicing in Family Law, Residential Real Estate and Estate Planning. His Family Law practice covers a wide range of issues, including, custody and access disputes, child and spousal support, property division and divorce.  Wil is able to provide service to clients in London, Toronto, Guelph and Kitchener/Waterloo as the Miller Thomson is a national firm and has offices in those cities.

Wil has extensive experience in the negotiation and preparation of marriage contracts, cohabitation agreements and separation agreements. He also appears before both the Ontario and Superior Courts of Justice on a regular basis. Wil has successfully argued before the Ontario Court of Appeal.  While having extensive experience in court, Wil advocates adopting a non-adversarial approach to Family Law.   Wil asks clients to consider other options to the court process such as Collaborative Law and Mediation.

When couples separate, they often need legal advice in the context of selling or transferring a home.  Wil has an expanding real estate practice, which includes: purchases, sales, transfers and refinance transactions in the context of residential real estate. Wil continues to assist his family clients in the preparation of their Wills and Powers of Attorney, which is often necessary after separating from a spouse.

Wil is solution focused and results oriented in all aspects of his legal practice.

The adversarial process, as utilized by the judicial system, often creates barriers rather than solutions.  Collaborative Law allows families to focus on solutions, which in turn, results in needs being met and ultimately, healing.
